Caucus Cycle

Summary of 2012 Delegate Selection Plan

This is a summary from Chris Roberts, State Committeeman from the 32nd and Chair of the Native American Caucus:

Yesterday, the WSDCC passed the 2012 Caucus Plan.

Here are the relevant information that everyone should know.

Although we will possibly be in new districts in 2012, the plan will use the current districts. So, if you reside in the 1st CD today, but in the 10th in 2012, you will still caucus with the 1st CD in May. Also, anyone who is will turn 18 before the 2012 general election (November 6, 2012) is eligible to participate in the caucuses.

Scheduling Nominating Conventions

Dear Party Leader,

There have been some questions about the timing of County and Legislative District Nomination Conventions in the coming year. The Rules for the Selection of Democratic Candidates and Nominees for Public Office approved on September 26, 2009 state the following.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Road to 2012

The Democratic Change Commission just finished their first meeting, and I'm starting to collect information for the use of the WSDCC so we can make good decisions in 2011.

ANOTHER GREAT DAY TO BE A DEMOCRAT!

Wow! What a day for the Democratic Party! Legislative Districts had record turnout all over the state, just an incredible showing of the Party strength. This bodes well for a fun-packed summer and campaign season that hopefully will result in huge Democratic victories. Congratulations to all legislative districts for a job well done.

Now, we move onto the County Conventions followed by the Congressional District Caucuses and the State Party Convention.

For information on the next steps, please see the blog on caucus/convention locations and maps.

Caucus and Convention Locations

I'm collecting information on when and where the rest of the caucus cycle events are going to be held.

Please see the list here.

If you see a blank next to your LD, County or CD, please contact me with what is missing.

I'm also building a map to show all of these events.

Caucus Cycle

Every four years, the caucus cycle is used to select the Democratic Nominee for President. In Washington State, we elect delegates to the Democratic National Convention. Those delegates filter up from the Precinct level up to the Congressional District level. Here is a map of how the process works:

The YD's have created a flyer that we were hoping could make it into the Caucus packets. I've attached both a color and black & white version.

Thanks much!

Let's Caucus - Saturday February 9th

It all begins here in Washington State on Saturday February 9th - 1:00 pm at a neighborhood location near you.

The Washington State Democrats have put up a great new online caucus locator at,

http://www.wa-democrats.org/caucuslocator

You simply have to enter a last name and zip code to obtain caucus location information.

If that doesn't work, please try our map:

The Grassroots organization is helping us, too, with a new Caucus Hotline at 206.583.4345.
